Ubiquiti UniFi

Switching, wireless, and gateways — strong value for small sites.

Switches, access points, gateways, and cameras that are all managed from one console, without the per-device subscription most business networking carries. Widely deployed in small and mid-sized offices for that reason. The trade-off is that support is community-and-documentation rather than a vendor phone number, so it suits sites where somebody competent looks after it.

Structured copper and fiber

Category cable and fiber, tested and certified at handover.

The physical cabling itself — category cable to desks and access points, fiber between floors, closets, and buildings. Every run is tested against the standard it was sold as and the results handed over as a document, so a fault later can be traced to a labelled port rather than guessed at. This is the layer everything else in the building depends on and the one nobody thinks about until it fails.

Racks and cabinets

Patched, dressed, powered, and labelled at both ends.

Where the cabling terminates and the equipment lives. Done properly it means labelled patch panels, cable that can be traced, power that is sized for the load, and enough airflow that the equipment lasts. The difference between a tidy cabinet and a bad one is invisible on the day and expensive every time somebody has to work in it afterwards.

Wireless surveys

Access point placement from measurement, not guesswork.

Measuring how signal actually behaves in a building before deciding where access points go, rather than spacing them evenly and hoping. Walls, glass, metal racking, and ceiling height all change the answer, and older buildings routinely defeat assumptions. Cheaper to do first than to diagnose later as "the Wi-Fi is bad in the back office".

Cameras and access control

Sharing the same cabling and switching as the network.

Modern cameras and door controllers run over the same network cable as everything else, powered by the switch rather than a separate supply. That makes them a networking decision as much as a security one — the switch, the cabling, and the storage all have to be specified for it. Planning them alongside the network costs far less than retrofitting them into one.

The practical gain is administrative: revoking a departing employee's access takes seconds and does not involve changing a lock. Suits offices, studios, and shared premises more than high-security facilities.
